The Operations manager is a "support hub". They must have a strong grasp of civil infrastructure, excavations, shoring systems and utilities installations with an ability to lead individuals with all different levels of expertise. Daily key accountabilities will include managing company resources, meeting with owners and owner representatives, liaising with project teams, and assisting with the daily oversite of all construction operations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and actively participate in site planning meetings
  • Forecasting and organizing resource (crew, equipment) allocation and scheduling
  • Managing and tracking company resources
  • Dispatching CUC equipment and building the dispatch department
  • Coordinating and dispatching sub contractors (Traffic Management/Trucking/Deliveries)
  • Assist in maintenance scheduling and repair of large and small construction equipment
  • Responsible for managing supply chain
  • Working with CSO and Human resources manager to ensure corporate procedures and policies are maintained
  • Assists project teams with quality control and production
  • Participate in job hazard assessments and ongoing risk identification
  • Assist in reporting and investigating related to safety and environmental incidents
  • Assist in the development of site-specific safety plans
  • Utilize and develop/manage internal resource tracking system.
  • Issuing and tracking of purchase orders for daily consumables and large purchases
  • Coaching and mentoring staff
  • Utilizing and creating workplace and inter-job efficiencies
  • Coordinate and support all production and daily reports
  • Support projects close out process in a timely manner
  • Manage successful relationships with sub-contractors

Accountability and Expectations

Technical Expertise - Experience working with superintendents and field engineers, solving unexpected problems, while ensuring work is constructed safely to meet quality requirements and schedule. Able to rely on previous experience to predict when delays are imminent, and plan how to manage the impact, while keeping the project on track and the client happy. A sound understanding of construction systems and methods, construction specifications, codes, and requirements.

Able to engage and build trust with a broad range of stakeholders in the pursuit of project vision and goals. Skills and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in utility construction
  • Knowledge of construction equipment<
  • Ability to read construction drawings is an asset
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of scheduling software
  • Have knowledge of OH&S regulations and knowledge of construction disciplines (knowledge of materials and methods required)
  • Demonstrates planning attributes
  • Attention to details
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Possess superior written or oral communication skills
  • An understanding of underground utility and road construction market
  • A keen interest in growing their career
