Complete Utility is currently constructing a 140-linear-metre lock-block retaining wall in the City of Burnaby as part of a laneway expansion project located between Clinton Street and Nelson Avenue.

This retaining wall is a key component in extending an existing laneway into an area that was previously designated as City right-of-way, improving access and usability within the corridor.

The project area slopes from north to south, requiring careful consideration of grade changes and soil retention to ensure long-term stability. The lock-block wall has been designed to accommodate these elevation differences while providing consistent structural support along the full length of the alignment.

In addition, several major underground utility lines run parallel to the retaining wall, adding complexity to both the design and construction process. Close coordination and precise construction practices are being employed to protect existing services and maintain uninterrupted utility operations throughout the project.

Upon completion, the retaining wall will provide permanent earth retention and slope stabilization, enabling the safe extension of the laneway and supporting future municipal infrastructure needs. This project highlights Complete Utility's experience in delivering technically challenging civil works within constrained urban environments while meeting City of Burnaby standards.
