The City of White Rock, known for its stunning waterfront and vibrant community, is about to get a major underground upgrade - and for CUC, it's a milestone moment.

  • Completion Date: September 2025
  • Start Date: August 2025

On June 9, 2025, CUC was awarded a $1,031,505 contract by the City of White Rock council to carry out sanitary and drainage improvements along Thrift Avenue, between Vidal and Martin streets. While our crews have worked in White Rock before, this is our very first time partnering directly with the city — a big step forward for our team.

The project will see the installation of three new utility trenches stretching 200 metres. These will house:

  • 50mm conduit fibre optic line for future connectivity needs
  • Concrete storm pipes ranging from 750mm to 675mm in diameter
  • 200mm PVC sanitary sewer lines with accompanying manholes

We'll also remove aging infrastructure, replace old sewer lines, and finish things off with a full-depth milling and paving of the westbound lane on Thrift Avenue. The work will wrap up with a new curb extension at Thrift Avenue and Foster Street, designed to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

"Once completed, the area will benefit from a modernized system and improved drainage," says Project Manager Luke Gingras. "Upgraded crosswalks will also meet current safety standards, making it safer for pedestrians."

Work is already underway, with completion expected by mid-September. When it's done, the Thrift Avenue corridor will be ready to serve residents and visitors for decades to come — rain or shine.
