Complete Utility Contractors Ltd. is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Sanitary Trunk Sewer Replacement Project along Lougheed Highway between Westwood Street and Kingsway Avenue in Port Coquitlam.
This project involved the replacement of 310 meters of aging 200mm clay sewer pipe with a new 450mm high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sewer main. To minimize disruption along one of Metro Vancouver's busiest transportation corridors, we utilized trenchless technology (pipe bursting) rather than conventional open-cut methods.
Lougheed Highway is a major arterial route, and maintaining traffic flow was a critical requirement. By employing horizontal directional drilling (HDD), we were able to install the new sewer main beneath the roadway without full closures. Only small access pits were required at either side of the highway, allowing work to progress underground while vehicles and businesses above continued with little interruption.
During the course of the project, one particular piece of equipment drew considerable attention: the pipe fusion machine supplied by our partners at ICONIX Waterworks. This machine welds sections of HDPE pipe into seamless, leak-free joints, ensuring the long-term integrity of the system.
While this technology is a standard part of our toolkit, it was something entirely new to many residents and passersby. Our pipelayer, Kyle, often found himself approached by curious onlookers asking the same question over and over again: "What does that machine do?"
With professionalism and good humor, Kyle graciously answered questions while keeping work on track — effectively serving as both technician and "community educator." We extend our thanks to him for maintaining both productivity and approachability throughout the project.
Each aspect of the project required detailed planning, technical expertise, and precise execution to ensure safe delivery and long-term reliability.
At Complete Utility Contractors Ltd., we take pride not only in the infrastructure we build but also in the people who make it possible. Our crews are experienced, dedicated, and adaptable — able to deliver results on complex municipal projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting resilient, sustainable infrastructure for the communities we serve.
